Gaynor Minden

Erica Cornejo

BAILARINA PRINCIPAL, BOSTON BALLET

Alina Somova

BAILARINA PRINCIPAL, MARIINSKY (KIROV) BALLET

Alina Cojocaru

BAILARINA PRINCIPAL, THE ROYAL BALLET

Yekaterina Shipulina

BAILARINA PRINCIPAL, BOLSHOI BALLET

Deanna Seay

BAILARINA PRINCIPAL, MIAMI CITY BALLET

Elas fazem-me sentir livre."
Yekaterina Kondaurova

SOLISTA, THE MARIINSKY (KIROV) BALLET

Yevgenia Obratzsova

SOLISTA, MARIINSKY (KIROV) BALLET

Eu adoro-as!"
Elena Glurdjidze

BAILARINA PRINCIPAL VETERANA, ENGLISH NATIONAL BALLET

PART 1 - How to choose the pointe shoes

To start a job at the ends, it must be with the dancer's feet and legs ready. It needs to be trained by a teacher to gain more muscles developed and thus have the strength to go on the ends. Why does not recommend the use of pointe shoes for people who do ballet, they run the serious risk of injury because they are not prepared. After this preparation, the most anticipated hour arrives (LOL): the purchase of pointe shoes.Buy pointe shoe for children and teenagers, who are in a growth phase, is a little tricky, because you have to keep changing the number. If this is your first purchase, I recommend you go accompanied by their teacher or a more experienced colleague. However, I will give tips on how to know if the shoe is on the appropriate size and type of your feet:

Ask the salesperson give you a shoe for beginners (it's good to go with the teacher recommendations, as it has sellers who do not know how to give information). I recommend a 180 Capezio Partner, it is great for beginners because it sustains the ballerina in the right measure for the implementation of simple steps that do not require much strength or support. When choosing the number, the number 1.5 to 2 sizes above what you wear normally. This is usually measured for pointe shoes. To determine whether the number of sneaker is correct, make grand pliés. If you are aa shoe is "moving" or leaving the heel is loose, you feel that your fingers are tight or that the weight of your body is not well distributed on the feet (if your feet are "falling" forward or backward) it is tight. The number is for when you feel your weight evenly distributed on the foot without the shoe to be large. DO NOT FORGET TO TRY TO HALF-tip and SHOES!Climb up on the tips and see if the shoe gives good support, your feet should not be "falling" forward or backward. Also, make sure it is not too soft for your feet and most importantly, feel that it is comfortable.

Part 2 - How to soften the pointe shoes

After choosing the proper shoe, you need to soften it. That means you need to adapt it to your foot shape and make it more flexible for implementing the steps. It's like a new pair of jeans: as soon as you purchase, it is "hard" and tight, but as you go, it will "giving" to your body. Many people like to make this process only in the hand. NEVER DO THIS! You are wrong, because then the shoe will soften in the wrong places and will not be adequate to the shape of the foot. What you should do:If the shoe is soooo hard, and do not give only to soften the feet, you try a little bit in hand, BUT NOT MUCH FORCE! Let's call the softening in the hands of "pre-softening."Make movements "curve" in the arch of the shoe, as if he wanted to touch the tip of the heel; force also demi-pointe, performing the movement of half-edge with your handsThat done, it's time to soften the truth, the feet! Bar in the first place, do elevate slowly, well past the half-edge until you reach the edge, but be careful not to fall sideways!Balance and body weight and do not forget: stretch your belly and chest and not to weigh on the feet.Another exercise that is good is to balance the weight of the whole body in one edge laterally what?. You're in first position on the bar, makes it a degagé the second and transfers weight to the leg that is in degagé. But do not forget that must be attached to the body, can not sit on the base leg or move the trunk, you only mexerá the lower body. But the best exercise is: half-edge, edge, half-tip, tip ... ;-)I hope you enjoyed the 2nd half. I'll reinforce the warning: the pointe shoe should be soft on the feet to fit the format and to soften them in the correct places. If you find the shoe is very stiff and hard to soften the feet only, do these exercises I teach, but DO NOT FORCE A LOT! You may end up breaking his shoe literally and make her take a different format than your feet.

PART 3 - How to store and clean your tips

After choosing and soften the pads, it is necessary to keep them, so they last longer and stay in proper condition for use.
Use the pad only appropriate flooring such as linoleum and wood, for not wearing verydirty or satin, in addition to preventing slips and thus possible injuries.
Clean your tips regularly. I've published an article here on the blog with a very goodmethod of cleaning:
Note: I do not know if this works with the pads of cloth as well.

Step-by-step

The product that I use for such cleaning is the Multipurpose See. It's a big bottle, blue, red cap. Sold at any grocery store, usually costs $ 2.50.
1st: moisten a brush (tooth may be) in BEEEM See Multipurpose and rub the soiled area of the shoe to become visible to clean it.
2nd: Leave the shoes in an area of the sun to dry. After drying, as before use, usually.
Note: the products do not take the wear satin slippers, just dirt. If you want a better result,"Makeup" sneaker.

How to "smooth out" the tips

It seems difficult, but it is not, just laborious.
You will need Nugget (who use to polish dress shoes), the white version.
You also need basic face (makeup), but the color should be pale.
Mix with a little Nugget of the base in a pot until it reaches the desired color for the shoes.
Preferably with a cotton ball, go on spreading the mixture evenly in a sneaker. Do not overdo it, because if the result is tragic, lol. = D
Let the shoes dry in the sun, and voila! ;-)

Sneakers Care

"After using them in a class, rehearsal or performance, never store them in stuffy places, such as plastic bags or purses. Sweat soaked his foot is in the shoe and makes soften the plaster, which shortens the life footwear. It is best to let them take air into the plaster dries. In wetter places is good to put near a fan or behind the refrigerator (but remember that this will increase your electric bill).
"Sometimes, before a show, the shoe is completely broken foot, but is completely dirty (which precludes its use on stage). As you can not just put them inside a washing machine, there methods to disguise the dirt: 1) Make a paste of washing powder and little water (not to take the plaster). Take a toothbrush and go gently wiping the outside of the shoe. This strategy applies to those not very dirty. 2) If the first option failed, the way is makeup. nugget White Pass and then move on base (the ones we use on the face thereof) on top.
Detail: the basis chosen must have the tone closest to the sneaker. 3) This option is for extreme cases. You can paint your sneakers with fabric paint. But the paint has to be mushy, but "bye, bye plaster"! You can also paint your shoe when you want a different color to make a fantasy, because the color choices on the market vary from pink to salmon. Since only the brand in Brazil and Balleto Capezio (I think) makes colorful shoes (black, for example), who does not fit into Balleto must transform the sneaker.Last year, I painted mine black. 4) A more expensive option would be to go to the cobbler and ask him to change the satin slippers. But that can cost the price of a new one.
